Our virtual monthly meetings include guest speakers who provide educational presentations to teach ways to prepare a research plan, how to evaluate evidence, techniques to discover online and non-digitized resources, and so much more.

Essential Portals for Genealogy Research
Nancy Loe will kickoff a new year for the St. Cloud Area Genealogists with her presentation of the webinar “Essential Portals for Genealogy Research” on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 7 p.m. Loe will present search strategies and websites that can help genealogists of all skill levels find some of their most difficult to find ancestors.
After a long professional career in academic archives and genealogy libraries, Nancy E. Loe, MA, MLS, is now a genealogy educator, researcher, and writer. She specializes in U.S. and European research, and provides expert guide on organizing research and family papers.
Her website, sassyjanegenealogy.com, offers a blog, free monthly newsletter, and e-books on research topics. Nancy has appeared on PBS’s American Experience, at National Genealogical Society, RootsTech, and numerous genealogy conferences and webinars in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. Recently, Nancy has been on a genealogy pilgrimage to visit the eight European villages of her great-grandparents.

A Crash Course in Practical Genetic Genealogy
Dr. Adina Newman will present online to the St. Cloud Area Genealogists with the webinar “A Crash Course in Practical Genetic Genealogy” on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 7 p.m. Newman will provide some basic strategies that will help participants navigate the different types of DNA tests and the major commercial testing companies as well as learning strategies to locate DNA matches. A case study will pull together the strategies taught in the presentation.
Adina Newman, EdD, is the owner of My Family Genie, where she assists clients in their research and blogs about her own family history. Her main interests are in Jewish genealogy, genetic genealogy, and New England. She has a doctorate in educational leadership and the certificate in genealogical research from Boston University. She volunteers as a Facebook moderator for a Jewish genetic genealogy group, Social Media Coordinator for NextGen Genealogy Network, and a discussion leader for ProGen 50. She was also a 2020 recipient of the AncestryProGenealogists scholarship.

How to Reopen and Work a Genealogical Cold Case
Lisa Louise Cooke will present the webinar “How to Reopen and Work a Genealogical Cold Case” for the St. Cloud Area Genealogists on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 7 p.m. In this session, Cooke will help researchers of all levels become genealogical detectives. Participants will learn to track their ancestors like a criminal cold case detective, sniffing out holes in their research and getting missing information on the record with cutting edge technology.
Lisa Louise Cooke is the author of several books including The Genealogist’s Google Toolbox, 3rd edition. She produces and hosts the popular Genealogy Gems Podcast, and the free weekly YouTube show Elevenses with Lisa at the Genealogy Gems YouTube channel. She offers a Premium Membership service at her website featuring exclusive on-demand genealogy education. Cooke also writes a regular column for Family Tree Magazine and produces the Family Tree Magazine Podcast.
